Kolkata:  The junior doctors, protesting against the Kolkata rape and murder of their colleague at West Bengal's RG Kar college, on Saturday slammed BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari for his remarks in which he had said that those who protested against Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Agnimitra Paul were not junior doctors. The agitating medical professionals, who defied CM Mamata's call to come back to work, said that they would not let their protest be politicised.

The statement followed a video by the Trinamool Congress in which it alleged that the protesting doctors are getting support from a nearby BJP office.

“We will not allow anyone to use our movement for political gain. We condemn Suvendu Adhikari's statement that those who shouted 'Go Back' at Agnimitra Paul were not junior doctors,” The Telegraph quoted a doctor as saying.

The junior doctors have been protesting against the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at the government-run RG Kar MCH on August 9, addressing a press conference outside the Swasthya Bhavan calling for improvements in the state's healthcare system.

The doctors demanded a stronger infrastructure to ease the healthcare facilities for the patients travelling from the far-flung area. They also requested an efficient referral system to reduce hospital visits.

Letter To PM Modi, President Murmu

With no concrete action on the part of the state government, the agitating doctors sent letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Murmu, requesting their intervention in the RG Kar Hospital deadlock.

Copies of the four-page letter were also forwarded to Vice President Dhankhar and Health Minister JP Nadda.

TMC Suspect Conspiracy

Meanwhile, senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh alleged that opposition forces are planning an attack on the protesting junior doctors to defame the Mamata Banerjee government. He cited an audio clip as evidence.
