West Bengal SIR: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in West Bengal is gearing up for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, which is set to begin on October 6. The exercise is a part of a nationwide push by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to verify voter records ahead of the upcoming elections in several states.

The matching of data between the 2002 SIR and the January 2025 voter list is expected to be completed by tomorrow, NDTV quoted officials in the CEO’s office as saying. Additionally, the CEO's office has begun preparations for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The CEO’s office on Thursday launched the Election Manpower Management System (EMMS) 2.0 portal to streamline the process of recruitment and management of polling personnel.

What Is EMMS 2.0 Portal? All You Need To Know About It

- Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Elections, the EC aims to create a comprehensive database portal of electoral staff to accurately track available polling personnel across the state.

- In a bid to effectively manage electoral manpower, the EC has launched a digital platform known as the EMMS 2.0 portal, which will help streamline recruitment, transfers, edits, and verification of employees.

- It enables authorities to maintain up-to-date records of election staff and manage additions or removals due to recruitment and transfers.

- Both district and state-level cells will maintain this information.

- The EMMS 2.0 portal is a joint initiative by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal.

- The EMMS 2.0 portal was inaugurated by NIC Joint Directors Saikat Narayan Bhattacharya and Shamik Kumar Bhattacharya, alongside Additional Chief Electoral Officer Arindam Niyogi and Deputy CEO Sumanta Ray.

Starting September 19, the EMMS 2.0 portal will be used to build a database of polling staff across nearly 32,000 offices in the state. The CEO's office has also instructed all 32,000 offices to upload their employee details into the EMMS portal. Non-compliance can lead to strict action under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
