West Bengal Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that several districts of West Bengal are likely to witness a sharp drop in temperature in the next few days. The weather department further stated that the southern districts are set to experience a cold wave during the Makar Sankranti. It further asserted that these regions are also set to witness dense fog, especially in the morning and evening hours. The presence of dense fog has disrupted the flight and train services, leading to inconveniences for the passengers. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings in the early hours.
While providing details, the weather department stated that the southern districts are not likely to witness any rain for the next few days. However, cold waves and dense fog are likely to persist in these districts for the next five days. The IMD stated that the temperature is likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees in almost all the districts of South Bengal in the next 48 hours.
The weather department stated that there is no possibility of any major change in the minimum temperature in Kolkata in the next four to five days. The minimum temperature in Kolkata dropped to 12.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, 1.4 degrees lower than normal. The IMD stated that the capital city is likely to witness a cold wave for the next few days, adding that the presence of fog will trouble the commuters.
The weather department stated that some regions of North Bengal are likely to witness light rain in the upcoming days. However, the temperature is not likely to decrease for the next few days, providing a relief to the residents. Apart from Bengal, several other states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, are also set to witness a cold wave.
