The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Wednesday formed a three-member ad hoc committee days after the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) was suspended. The committee will be headed by Bhupinder Singh Bajwa. The move comes a day after the Union Sports Ministry on Sunday instructed the IOA to form the committee to manage the affairs of the now suspended WFI.
Bhupinder Bajwa is currently serving as the president in the Wushu Association of India. The committee further comprises MM Somaya, an Olympian in hockey, and former international badminton player Manjusha Kanwar.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Sunday, December 24, suspended the Wrestling Federation of India soon after the conclusion of its elections last week.

A massive uproar erupted after a close aide of former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual assault, was elected as the federation's head on December 21. The selection of Sanjay Singh as WFI chief led to a major disappointment among the wrestlers who have been protesting against former WFI head Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for months.
Soon after the results of the WFI elections were revealed, Rio Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malikkh announced her retirement from wrestling at a a press conference in Delhi.
The next day, Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Punia returned his Padma Shri. Poonia, who was asked to take back his awards, refused to do so till "sisters and daughters" fighting against sexual harassment get justice.
Olympian Vinesh Phogat on Tuesday joined the league of wrestlers giving up their laurels as she announced that she would return her Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award and Arjuna Award.
