India and Pakistan on Saturday announced a ceasefire after days of escalated tensions between the two nuclear powers. While US President Donald Trump broke the news on the social media platform X, there were other nations too, apart from the US, that had played a significant role in the massive decision. The fresh tension between India and Pakistan sparked after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, in which 26 tourists were killed. It further escalated when India carried out 'Operation Sindoor' at multiple terrorist sites in Pakistan, killing some of the top terrorists.
The United States Played A Significant Role
The United States reportedly played a crucial role in the peace deal between India and Pakistan. The US President Trump’s Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he and the US Vice President JD Vance have engaged with some top Indian and Pakistani officials for the past 48 hours. Rubio stated that the US had communicated with Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.
Donald Trump himself broke the news on his social media platforms by stating that both nations have used "common sense" to bring the situation back to normal.
Saudi Arabia Contacted Both India And Pakistan
Apart from the US, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir had also visited New Delhi and Islamabad hours after 'Operation Sindoor'. Jubeir stated that Saudi has good terms with both India and Pakistan, adding that all the problems can be solved through talks. Apart from this, Iran, the UAE, and Qatar also played roles in the peace agreement.
However, Pakistan launched several suspected drone attacks in multiple Indian cities just a few hours after the ceasefire was announced. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, in a press briefing, stated that the Indian Army strongly retaliated, adding that Pakistan should "immediately" stop the attacks to make the situation normal.
