The whereabouts of Swati Maliwal, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, remain unknown after she alleged assault by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's PA, Bibhav Kumar, at Kejriwal's official residence. According to sources, Delhi Police attempted to contact Maliwal at both her residence and her aunt's residence, but she was not found at either location. The former Delhi Commission for Women chairperson has not seen been seen in public too.
Maliwal has yet to make a public statement regarding the alleged assault by Kejriwal's personal assistant, a charge acknowledged by the AAP leader Sanjay Singh.
The incident came to light when Swati Maliwal, also an AAP Rajya Sabha MP, made a distress call to Delhi Police, accusing Kejriwal's PA, Bibhav Kumar, of assaulting her at the Chief Minister's residence in Civil Lines.
Previously, Maliwal's ex-husband expressed concerns about her safety and claimed that Swati’s life was in danger. Naveen Jaihind, her ex-husband, accused AAP of orchestrating a conspiracy and alleged that AAP leader Sanjay Singh was "doing acting".
In a video message on X, Naveen Jaihind said, "I am Naveen Jaihind. Since yesterday, I have been getting a lot of calls from journalists regarding what happened with Swati Maliwal at the Delhi Chief Minister's residence. First, I want to say that I am divorced and have not been in contact with her for the last four years. Second, I want to tell you that whatever has happened with Swati was planned and now she has been threatened and anything can happen to her."
"The man who has assaulted Swati does not have the guts to even raise his voice but he did that on the instructions of someone. I was just listening to Sanjay Singh's press conference and wanted to tell him that he should stop acting, as he knows everything. Swati should stand up and speak for herself. What are you afraid of? Speak up, we are all with you. Her life is under threat," Naveen Jaihind added.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday evening confirmed Maliwal's visit to Kejriwal's residence, stating that the assault occurred while she was waiting in the drawing room. Kejriwal has taken note of the incident and promised strict action in response.
The Delhi Police have categorised Maliwal's complaint as "pending," with no FIR filed yet.
The incident has sparked criticism from the opposition, with Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva questioning the delay in arrests and demanding answers from Kejriwal. He called for the need of immediate action based on Sanjay Singh's statement and urged thorough investigation into the incident's instigators and motives.
