Archana Patil Joins BJP: Veteran Congress leader and former union minister Shivraj Patil's daughter-in-law, Archana Patil Chakurkar, on Saturday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
She joined the saffron party in Mumbai in the presence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Speaking on the occasion, Fadnavis said Archana's association with the BJP will help the party bolster its prospects in the Marathwada region, which is Shivraj Patil's native place.
Prior to joining the BJP, Archana met Fadnavis on Friday. She told reporters that she decided to join the BJP as she was influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's various pro-women initiatives.
"I have joined BJP to work in the political sphere. I was greatly influenced by the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam brought by PM Modi. It gives equal opportunity to women," Archana stated.
