Probable Delhi Chief Ministerial Candidates

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has stated that the final decision on the selection of new Chief Minister of Delhi will be taken by the party’s top leadership. However, several names are being discussed for the Delhi CM post:

  • Parvesh Verma: A key Jat leader who defeated Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi.

  • Rekha Gupta: Former BJYM Delhi Secretary, National Secretary and Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha General Secretary. She is emerging as a strong contender.

  • Ashish Sood: Former BJYM National VP, Goa BJP in-charge and Leader of the House in South MCD.

  • Shikha Roy: MLA-elect from Greater Kailash, known for hoisting the Tricolour at Lal Chowk in Srinagar during a curfew in 2011.

  • Satish Upadhyay: Former Delhi BJP President and NDMC Vice-Chairperson.

  • Vijender Gupta: Leader of the BJP in the outgoing Delhi Assembly.

  • Bansuri Swaraj: Daughter of late Sushma Swaraj and a prominent lawyer.

Notably, the BJP leadership is also considering the option of appointing a woman CM, as the party currently lacks a female chief minister in any state.

BJP's Historic Win In Delhi Assembly Elections 2025

The 2025 Delhi Assembly election marked a historic comeback for the BJP, which won 48 out of 70 seats, ending the 27-year gap since it last held power in the capital. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) saw a sharp decline, managing to secure only 22 seats, a steep drop from 62 seats in the previous election.

The decision on the CM pick was delayed, partly due to Prime Minister Modi’s France-US visit from February 11-13. The speculation over the BJP’s choice for the top post has been ongoing since the Election Commission of India announced the results on February 8.
