In a chilling incident, a woman threw her three-year-old sleeping daughter into a lake in Rajasthan's Ajmer as her lover didn't like the child born from her first marriage.

The woman, identified as Anjali, was living separately from her husband and with her lover, Alkesh, in Ajmer. Her lover reportedly used to taunt her over the girl, due to which she was extremely fed up and took the shocking step.

During a late-night patrol on Tuesday, Head Constable Govind Sharma spotted the couple. He asked the couple about what they were doing late at night.

Anjali told the police she had left the house with her daughter, but she went missing on the way. She said that they were searching for the child all night but found her nowhere.

Taking quick action, the police reviewed the nearby CCTV cameras and found that Anjali was walking around the Ana Sagar Lake with the child in her arms at around 00:30 am. An hour later, at around 01:30 am, she was seen alone walking while busy on her mobile phone.

As her statement contradicted the reality, the police grew suspicious and started searching for the girl, only to recover her body from the lake on the next day, Wednesday.

The police started questioning Anjali, during which she broke down and confessed to throwing her own child into the lake. According to the police, she committed the crime alone and informed Alkesh at around 2:00 AM.

Anjali alleged that she acted out of stress, as Alkesh would consistently taunt her over the child. According to the police, Anjali is a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi. She works at a hotel in Ajmer and came to the city after separating from her husband. Alkesh was her coworker at the hotel.
