Rajasthan News: Police in Barmer have arrested a schoolteacher accused of killing a woman who had travelled hundreds of kilometres to meet him. The victim, 37-year-old Mukesh Kumari from Jhunjhunu, was discovered dead inside her car a day after confronting the man about marriage.
Mukesh, an anganwadi supervisor, had separated from her husband nearly ten years ago. Last year, she came into contact with Manaram, a government schoolteacher from Barmer, through Facebook. Their friendship soon turned into a relationship and Mukesh often drove about 600 km from Jhunjhunu to visit him.
The NDTV report cited investigators as stating that, Mukesh wanted to marry Manaram and frequently pressed him to make the relationship official. While she had already divorced her husband, Manaram’s divorce case was still pending in court, which became a source of tension between them.
On September 10, Mukesh travelled to Barmer in her Alto car and located Manaram’s home with the help of villagers. There, she openly spoke to his family about their relationship. The revelation angered Manaram and the local police were called. Officers counselled both and advised them to resolve the matter.
Later that evening, the two met again. According to police, an argument broke out and Manaram allegedly struck Mukesh on the head with an iron rod, killing her instantly. He then placed her body in the driver’s seat of her car and rolled the vehicle off the road to make it appear as an accident. He returned home and slept, before asking his lawyer the next morning to alert the police about the body.
