Jharkhand may soon receive the third instalment of central assistance for its ongoing Jal Jeevan Mission schemes, following a recent meeting between the state’s Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister, Yogendra Prasad, and Union Jal Shakti Minister, CR Patil.

The state government has requested Rs 6,000 crore in central support for the mission. For the third instalment, the Ministry of Jal Shakti is expected to release between Rs 800 crore and Rs 1,000 crore.

Under the scheme, over Rs 9,000 crore has been sanctioned to provide tap water connections to households across Jharkhand. Of this, Rs 3,000 crore has already been released by the central government. Currently, the state’s completion rate is about 25 per cent below the national average.

Minister Yogendra Prasad said the central assistance is the state’s right and added that upon receiving the funds, schemes with 90 per cent work already completed will be expedited. The mission covers both urban and rural areas, and the upcoming funds will benefit projects in both sectors.
