The Jharkhand government has committed to removing illegal encroachments in Mauza Darida and Ledidumar villages of the Baghmara area in Dhanbad district by September 8, following a private member's resolution raised in the state assembly by Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy.

Responding to the resolution, Revenue, Registration, and Land Reforms Minister Deepak Birua informed the House that firm action would be taken against illegal occupants and that a final report detailing the removal process would be submitted after completion. The order for eviction has been issued under Encroachment Case No. 7/2024-25, with the Baghmara Circle Office overseeing the implementation.

According to a report by the Circle Inspector, the encroachment — allegedly led by Dhullu Mahto and his associates — involves 92 plots, including private lands, government property, and public roads. The illegally occupied lands belong to a diverse group of raiyats (landholders) from tribal, non-tribal, and Muslim communities.

Among those affected are Mohan Manjhi, Sonaram Manjhi, Birju Manjhi, Makru Miyan, Jamiruddin Ansari, Gafur Miyan, Salim Miyan, Godhra Kumar, Panchu Mahto, Rasik Miyan, Muslim Miyan, Abid Hussain, Gafur Manjhi, Lalu Mandal, Mohri Manjhi, Yunus Miyan, Chitu Manjhi, and Babujan Ansari, among others.

Minister Birua emphasised that the state government is serious and committed to reclaiming the encroached land within the stipulated timeline. “Action will be taken by September 8, and a report will follow,” he told the assembly.

While welcoming the government's assurance, MLA Saryu Roy took a firm stance, warning that if the encroachments are not cleared by the deadline, he will initiate contempt proceedings in the assembly against top Dhanbad district officials, including the Circle Officer of Baghmara, the Sub-Divisional Officer of Dhanbad, and the Deputy Commissioner.

Roy stated that the government's assurance makes it clear that the boundary wall erected around the encroached land will be demolished by the given date. He added that removing the encroachments is not just a legal necessity but a vital step in restoring the rights of affected landholders.

The development has sparked anticipation in the area, as residents await action to reclaim their lands from alleged illegal occupation.
