The Jharkhand High Court has stayed the appointment process for 421 posts of Female Supervisors in the state’s Child Welfare Department. The order was passed by Justice Anand Sen on Thursday while hearing a petition filed by 33 candidates, including Akanksha Kumari, challenging the recruitment process.
During the hearing, the court sought responses from the state government and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), questioning how 100 per cent reservation could be granted to a single category. The next hearing is scheduled in two weeks.

Senior Advocate Ajit Kumar, appearing for the petitioners, argued that although the candidates had appeared for the examination, they were denied selection because their degrees were in subsidiary subjects rather than the main subjects mentioned in the advertisement, conditions not specified in the recruitment regulations.
The petition also highlighted that restricting applications exclusively to women amounted to complete reservation for one category.
Meanwhile, JSSC’s counsels Sanjay Piparwal and Prince Kumar Singh submitted that the recruitment was for a women-only cadre and that the petitioners, having participated in the exam, had not earlier challenged the advertisement or appointment rules.
The High Court directed both the commission and the state government to file their replies before the next hearing.
