The Mamta Vahan service in Jharkhand, which ensures safe and timely transportation of pregnant women to hospitals, is set to go digital with the launch of an app-based system, similar to Ola and Uber.
National Health Mission (NHM) Mission Director Shashi Prakash Jha stated that ICICI Bank has been tasked with developing an app that will alert nearby Mamta Vahan vehicles immediately when a booking is made.

The closest vehicle will then reach the patient promptly. A key feature of the app will allow private vehicle drivers to register and make their vehicles available for hire, benefiting women in rural and remote areas who often face delays in ambulance services.
Jha, speaking at the Swasthya Samvad (Health Dialogue) held at the Dainik Jagran office, also announced that the number of 108 ambulances in the state will be increased. Currently, 30 new ambulances are being procured, and a proposal for 200 additional ambulances has been sent to the Chief Minister. About 210 existing ambulances are old and will be inspected by the Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI), with many likely to be scrapped, though they will remain in use until replacements are available.

In a bid to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, plans are underway to develop all Sadar Hospitals on the model of Ranchi Sadar Hospital, with specialist doctors being appointed. Jha acknowledged a shortage of specialist doctors in rural areas and said efforts are ongoing to expand diagnostic facilities. While Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) currently provide basic treatment, Sadar Hospitals will offer specialist services in the future.
Jha emphasised that the state is taking steps to improve healthcare services through both technological advancements and infrastructure expansion, ensuring timely and high-quality care for all patients.
