After record-breaking vehicle sales during Dhanteras and Diwali, the Ranchi District Transport Department has taken a strict view of negligence by several city showroom operators. Of the approximately 22,500 vehicles sold during the festive period, nearly 19,300 owners are still awaiting their registration cards, despite the vehicles already hitting the roads.

Officials warn that driving without essential documents not only poses a road safety risk but also leaves owners vulnerable to insurance invalidation and heavy penalties during police checks.

The Transport Department has compiled a list of over 100 defaulting showrooms that have not submitted the required vehicle documentation to the authorities. Notices are being prepared, and action is expected shortly.

Meanwhile, customers continue to make multiple rounds of showrooms, alleging that dealers had initially promised registration cards within five days. More than a month later, they claim they are still being told to “wait”.

“Showrooms that have not submitted vehicle documents are being identified. Notices will be served, and strict action will follow. Due to their negligence, thousands of vehicle owners have not received their registration cards,” said Akhilesh Kumar, DTO Ranchi

Authorities expect the renewed enforcement to push dealers to expedite pending documentation and provide relief to affected vehicle owners.
