Police from the Chutia station have arrested and jailed a man accused of a life-threatening assault on a police constable. The incident occurred near the RPF post under the Ranchi railway station overbridge.

The Incident

The events unfolded on December 26, when the police control room received information regarding a commotion and a gathering crowd near the RPF post. In response, a team from PCR-21comprising Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Yogendra Kumar, Constable Anil Chandra Saha, and driver Constable Kamlesh Singharrived at the scene.

According to the FIR registered on the statement of ASI Yogendra Kumar, the team found a crowd surrounding an agitated individual. When Constable Anil Chandra Saha moved forward to apprehend him, the individual attacked the officer with a stick. Constable Saha sustained a severe head injury and collapsed, bleeding profusely. He was immediately rushed to Gurunanak Hospital by his colleagues for urgent treatment.

Investigation And Arrest

Following the hospitalisation of the injured constable, police questioned witnesses at the scene. It was revealed that prior to the police arrival, the accused had assaulted another youth, who is currently undergoing treatment at RIMS.

The inquiry identified the attacker as Vipin Bihari Tudu, a laborer who resides on the Ranchi railway station premises. An FIR was formally registered at the Chutia police station on December 28, once Constable Saha’s condition had improved. Acting on this, police conducted a search and apprehended Tudu near the railway station.

Rising Attacks On Police Personnel

This incident highlights a concerning rise in attacks on law enforcement officers in the city, raising alarm within the department.

Bariatu: A police team was recently attacked, leading to immediate arrests.

RIMS Area: An attempt was made to run over police personnel on duty, causing panic.

Lalpur: An Officer on Duty was reported to have been assaulted.

The police administration has expressed serious concern over these continuous incidents and has stated that strict legal action will be taken against those targeting officers on duty.
