Residents no longer need to rush between 9 am and 5 pm to book Speed Post and parcels. The Postal Department has launched a special counter at the Head Post Office in the Cantonment area to provide round-the-clock booking services. This new facility allows the public to make bookings at their convenience, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Focus On Convenience And Crowd Management

The 24-hour service was inaugurated following the first meeting of the Post Forum Advisory Committee held at the Head Post Office on Tuesday. RC Rana, Senior Postmaster at the Head Post Office, explained the rationale behind the initiative. He noted that parcel bookings constitute the highest volume of work at the office. Additionally, since the discontinuation of Registered Post, the reliance on Speed Post has increased significantly, leading to long queues and connectivity issues during the day.

To manage this, staff will now be deployed in day and night shifts. R Rana emphasised that the facility will be particularly beneficial during the festive season. It is designed to aid lawyers, business people, and salaried individuals who cannot visit the post office during standard working hours due to their busy schedules.

Committee Decisions On Aadhaar And Passports

During the advisory committee meeting, several other key decisions were taken to upgrade services:

Aadhaar Services: Facilities for Aadhaar enrolment for individuals over 18 years of age will be provided at the Meerut Aadhaar counter. Two additional counters will be added to support this.

Passport Services: The number of extension counters for passport services will be increased from two to four.

Infrastructure: A decision was made to renovate and repaint Postal Department buildings.
