The State Government has appointed 1994-batch IPS officer Tadasha Mishra as the regular Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand. With this appointment, she becomes the first woman to hold the position of regular DGP in the state. To facilitate her appointment, the state government amended its existing regulations, which previously mandated that an officer must have at least six months of service remaining before retirement to be eligible for the post of regular DGP.

Tadasha Mishra had initially been appointed as the acting DGP of Jharkhand on November 6. Her actual retirement date was scheduled for December 31, 2025, meaning she assumed the acting role just 55 days prior to her superannuation. Under the previous rules, it was widely assumed that someone else would be appointed as the regular DGP, as she did not meet the six-month residual service criterion.

However, the state government amended the "Director General and Inspector General of Police Jharkhand (Head of Police Force) Selection and Appointment Rules, 2025." The amendment removed the six-month mandatory service clause. Based on the revised regulations, Tadasha Mishra will now serve as the DGP of Jharkhand for a fixed tenure of two years, extending her service until 2027.

Who Is Tadasha Mishra? 

Hailing from Odisha, Tadasha Mishra entered the Indian Police Service in 1994 as part of the Bihar cadre. Upon the formation of Jharkhand in 2000, she was allocated to the newly created state cadre, where she has since held several high-profile positions. Her extensive career includes tenures as the City SP of Ranchi and Superintendent of Police in Giridih and Bokaro. Additionally, she has served in critical administrative roles, including DIG (Personnel), IG (Human Rights), IG (Special Branch), and Additional Director General of Railways.

A Track Record Of Administrative

Efficiency IPS officer Tadasha Mishra is known for her unblemished record and administrative efficiency. During her tenure as the acting DGP, she established excellent coordination with junior officers within the police department and ensured that no actions were taken in violation of the rules.

Prior to becoming the acting DGP, she served as the Special Secretary in the Department of Home, Prison, and Disaster Management. Her past assignments include serving as the City SP in Ranchi, Commandant of JAP-1 and JAP-2, and Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bokaro and Giridih. She also held the post of DIG (Personnel) and later served as IG (Human Rights), IG (Special Branch) and Zonal IG of Bokaro.

Background Of The Appointment

Tadasha Mishra was appointed as the acting DGP in November 2025 following the voluntary retirement of Anurag Gupta. Gupta, who was appointed in February 2025, resigned due to persistent controversies. Mishra took charge on November 7, 2025, and her appointment was regularized in December 2025. This move is seen as a step towards strengthening police reforms and anti-Naxal operations in the state. Recently, she held a meeting with CRPF DG Gyanendra Pratap Singh to discuss strategies to combat Naxalism.
