Ways To Check Purity Of Paneer: While paneer is commonly used in a variety of dishes, the concern regarding its purity and quality is something many consumers face. Due to its high demand, there are instances where manufacturers may mix paneer with non-edible substances like starch, chemicals or artificial milk to increase yield or prolong shelf life. This practice compromises both its health benefits and taste.

Adulterated paneer can negatively affect your health and alter the texture and flavour of your meals. To avoid consuming paneer that’s been mixed with harmful additives, it is essential to check its purity before use. There are a few straightforward and reliable methods you can employ at home to verify its authenticity. Here are 4 simple tests you can easily do to determine whether your paneer is made from pure milk or has been tampered with.

Ways To Check Purity Of Paneer At Home

Water Immersion Test

Drop a small piece of paneer into a glass of water. Pure paneer will sink to the bottom due to its solid, dense nature. If the paneer starts to float or dissolve in the water, it likely contains starch or other artificial substances.

Flame Test

This test can be performed with just a lighter or matchstick. Take a small piece of the paneer and hold it over a flame. Pure paneer made from fresh milk will melt gradually without leaving behind any residue or burning odour.

Texture Check

Authentic paneer made from fresh milk is soft, crumbly yet firm. If the paneer seems unusually soft, spongy or sticky, it may have been altered with starch or other non-milk-based additives.

Taste Test

Take a small bite of the paneer and assess its flavour. Pure paneer should have a clean, fresh and subtly creamy taste. It should not be overly sweet or starchy.
