Unhealthy Breakfast Habits: We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and any compromises with it can have detrimental effects on the overall health of an individual. From skipping breakfast meals to consuming unhealthy foods for breakfast, there are some common unhealthy habits that we practise for the first meal of the day that may pose a threat to our health. Breakfast is also known as the breakfast-friendly meal as it majorly includes healthy drinks, low-calorie fruits and vegetables. Here, we have listed some common mistakes that we may make during our breakfast that may lead to certain weight gain.

1. Skipping Breakfast
One of the major mistakes that we make is skipping breakfasts. Breakfast is important as it breaks overnight fasting of the body and replenishes it with the necessary nutrients required for functioning. Therefore, one should never skip breakfast and consume fruits, green vegetables, oats, quinoa, nuts, and whole grains.

2. Drinking Only Coffee Or Tea
Many of us begin our day just with a mug of coffee or a cup of tea. Coffee and tea are ideal beverages most of us can’t do without, but consuming them first thing in the morning can have adverse effects on the body. According to Dt. Shweta Gupta, Head Dietician, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, drinking coffee on an empty stomach can increase stomach acid production, cause acid reflux, and lead to nutrient deficiencies.
3. Grabbing Breakfast From Outside

Sometimes it may be fine, but if you are someone who buys ready-to-eat meals for your breakfast every day, then you may want to stop. Choosing to eat foods made outside or packaged foods such as a muffin, cupcakes etc, may not provide your body with the nutrients that it needs for vital functioning. Therefore, always try to prepare a nutritious breakfast at home.
4. Eating Straight From Cereal Box
When eating directly from a cereal box, it becomes difficult to be mindful of the portion size that you consume, which may lead to weight gain. Therefore, never eat directly from a cereal box, always pour in a bowl, check the portion size and then consume your breakfast cereals.

5. Eating And Scrolling
The morning hours can usually be hectic with a load of scheduling meetings, reaching the office on time, getting kids ready, looking after family members, getting breakfast ready and so much more. Amidst this chaos, we usually find ourselves scrolling our mobile phones or laptops while treating ourselves to breakfast. Watching your phone or TV while eating can make you overeat without paying attention to the portion size, which may lead to weight gain in the long run.
