Starting your day with healthy foods that have great nutritional value is essential for overall health and well-being. Breakfast can set the mood and energy for the whole day. Therefore, including healthy items on your breakfast plate should be your priority. Instead of stumbling on foods such as low-fat yoghurt and oatmeal that may have a low nutritional profile, add superfoods that have good amounts of nutrients. Here is a list of the worst breakfast foods that you should avoid consuming in the morning hours.

1. High-sugary or Refined Cereals
All of us crave something sweet and binge on packaged foods or highly refined cereals to satiate our cravings. However, highly refined cereals are usually full of sugar content and low in protein and fibre, which can increase blood sugar levels rapidly. These foods with low nutritional profiles and high added sugar can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and strokes.

2. Pancakes
The majority of us complete our morning breakfast with a plate full of pancakes but we need to break this habit. Pancakes are not a healthy way to start the day as they are prepared with refined white flour and topped with sugar syrup that can escalate blood sugar levels. Pancakes are high in calories, sugar and fat which makes them one of the worst breakfast foods.
3. Fruit Juices

Instead of sipping on fruit juices, one must consider consuming raw fruits to enjoy their nutritional value. Although fruit juices contain nutrients and antioxidants, they are still extremely high in sugar content and low in fibre, which means they do not make you feel satiated and have health repercussions. The high concentrated sugar content in fruit juices can lead to obesity and other health conditions.
4. Low-Fat Yoghurts
Low-fat or sweetened yoghurt contain high amounts of sugar which makes them a bad choice for breakfast. Although yoghurt is a good source of protein and fibre, the added sugar content makes it less healthy and nutritious.

5. Sugary Coffee Drinks
Sugary coffee drinks such as mocha or frappes are beverages full of sugar content. When consumed in excess, these sugary drinks can lead to weight gain, and increase the risk of several chronic health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and others.
