Unhealthy Processed Foods: Processed foods are any food that has been changed from its natural state. Washing, canning, freezing or adding other processes are some ways to keep the food fresh and healthy for a longer duration. Being altered from their original form, the nutritional value of the foods. Depending on the degree of processing, nutrients are destroyed or removed from the food which makes their nutritional value low. Less nutritious processed foods also contain added chemicals and preservatives that can have detrimental effects on overall health and well-being. Here is a list of some processed foods that you should eliminate from your diet to avoid repercussions.

Unhealthy Processed Foods To Avoid
1. Packaged Meals
Packaged foods such as chips, cookies and crackers may be lifesavers in no time but have negative impacts on one’s health. These foods contain high levels of sugar, sodium and fat that can increase blood sugar levels and risk of heart diseases such as strokes.

2. Packaged Bread
Packaged bread, buns and other baked goods contain added additives and preservatives that help to keep them fresh and increase their shelf life. However, the highly processed wheat and additives in white bread make it unhealthy. Consuming too much-packaged bread can alleviate the risk of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
3. Cereals

Breakfast cereals may appear to be healthy but are highly processed. They are often packed with high-added sugar and refined carbs that may contribute to a variety of diseases. Breakfast cereals such as granola with dried fruits chocolates, or cornflakes are high in sugar and extremely low in fibre which decreases their nutritional value.
4. Processed Meat
Processed meats are heavily processed by smoking, salting, or adding chemical preservatives. These meats include hot dogs, deli meats, bacon and others that increase the potential risk of cancer. Eating too much processed meats has been linked to the risk of various forms of cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

5. Alcoholic Beverages
The majority of alcoholic beverages are produced by fermentation of grapes, barley, fruits or grains which makes the ingredients lose their nutritional value. These beverages play a great role in increasing the blood pressure and sugar levels of an individual. Excessive consumption of alcohol can lead to the development of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and liver diseases among others.
