Unhealthy Drinking Habits: Hypertension or high blood pressure may fluctuate as one age. It is a health condition where an individual’s blood pressure is higher than normal. This increases the workload of arteries and blood vessels and damages the delicate tissues in the arteries. High blood pressure is a silent killer and causes a number of chronic diseases. Therefore, one should be aware of his/her blood pressure numbers and make lifestyle changes to balance them. Being mindful of what you eat and drink is also an essential determining factor. There are certain drinks that have a direct impact on the blood pressure levels and can raise them. Therefore, here are some unhealthy drinks that you should avoid to avoid high blood pressure levels.

Unhealthy Drinking Habits For High Blood Pressure
1. Too Much Alcohol
According to the Mayo Clinic, drinking too much alcohol can raise blood pressure to unhealthy levels. Having more than three drinks in one sitting temporarily raises blood pressure. Repeated binge drinking can lead to long-term increases in blood pressure.

2. Sugary Drinks
Although occasionally drinking sugary beverages is alright, drinking excessive amounts can be harmful to blood pressure levels. Beverages that are high in sugar content may increase arterial blood pressure and are dangerous for hypertensives. One should avoid consuming too many sugary drinks as they stimulate the production of bad cholesterol, which further increases the risk of diabetes and heart disease.
3. Energy Drinks

Energy drinks are beverages that are known to increase energy and enhance mental alertness and physical performance. As per NIH, energy drinks usually contain large amounts of sugar ranging from 21 g to 34 g per oz. The sugar content is mainly in the form of sucrose, glucose or high fructose corn syrup. Therefore, high-energy drink intake may increase the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes.
4. Too Much Coffee
Drinking too much coffee can cause health problems as it causes a rise in blood pressure, which further leads to anxiety, nervousness and sleep problems. Caffeine may be responsible for a short but dramatic increase in blood pressure.

5. Not Drinking Milk
Milk is a healthy beverage that benefits the cardiovascular system. It contains key blood pressure-reducing nutrients such as calcium, magnesium and potassium. Studies show that drinking milk regularly can lower the risk of high blood pressure and benefit overall health.
