Tips To Prevent Overeating: Overeating is one of the major concerns of health fanatics and is a common hurdle in achieving a healthy weight and body. Overeating usually refers to eating past the point of fullness, which means that you are satiated, but still prefer to eat. When overeating becomes a habit, it can lead to weight gain, obesity and many other chronic diseases.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, overeating is very common, and it’s biological. When you’re stressed, your body makes more of a hormone called cortisol. Increased cortisol is a fight-or-flight response that, among other things, tells you it’s time to find food. It can make you crave foods high in sugar, fat or salt. 1. Control Your Food Portion

When in a habit of overeating, one must practise controlling their food potions. It is common that when we eat fast, we end up eating more than required. Therefore, controlling your portion size is extremely important when it comes to preventing overeating.

2. Chew Slowly

Another easy way to prevent overeating is chewing slowly to keep in mind the food portion. Chewing foods slowly and for longer periods of time can help ease digestion. When we eat slowly, our brain gives a signal to our head to begin with digestion. Chewing slowly gives the stomach enough time to signal the brain for satiety.

3. Avoid Sugars

One should eliminate excessive sugar foods from their diet. Sugar or sweetened beverages are abundant in fructose, a simple sugar that increases hunger and the desire to eat more food or drink more sweetened beverages. Therefore, avoid consuming sugary foods.

4. Less Sodium Intake

The daily limit set by nutrition experts in the U.S. is 2,300 milligrams (mg) a day for people ages 14 and older. The World Health Organization (WHO) suggests a limit of 2,000 mg of sodium a day. Most of the sodium you eat is hidden in prepared foods.

5. Practise Label Reading

Before consuming foods, get into the habit of looking at the package. Read the packaging date, expiration date, ingredients and other important information. According to the Food and Drug Administration, this helps in getting to know about the key nutrients that impact your health. You can use the label to support your personal dietary needs and look for foods that contain more of the nutrients you want to get more of and less of the nutrients you may want to limit.
