The monsoon has already arrived in various parts of the country and people are experiencing relief from the scorching heat. Although monsoon brings great joy and pleasant weather with itself, it is also a season which is a host of illnesses. With the temperature turning wet and humid, the rainy season also invites flies, bugs and insects which cause bacterial and fungal infections. Interestingly, there are certain plants which when kept in the house or at the workplace, can repel the pests and give an aromatic and pleasant home.

Plants That Keep Flies And Insects Away 

1. Basil

It is a tender plant used for cuisines worldwide. This plant offers a sweet aroma which keeps the flies away. Basil naturally repels asparagus beetle, carrot fly, tomato hornworm, mosquitoes, flies, and whiteflies. The basil plant releases natural oils that generate an earthly aroma, which detracts outdoor insects, flies and pests.

2. Mint

Mint is another beneficial insect-repellent plant that you can keep in your house and at your workplace during monsoon weather. It is an aromatic plant which is known to have strong insect-repellent quality. The unique fragrance which comes from the blend of volatile and non-volatile compounds diffuses into the air and keeps the bugs away.

3. Rosemary

Rosemary is a fly-repellent plant because of its intense smell. The pungent fragrance of rosemary plants wards off irritating bugs, flies and insects from your house. Rosemary plant also has antibacterial, antibiotic and antioxidant properties and consuming it regularly can lower the risks of seasonal allergies and ailments.

4. Lavender

A small lavender plant in the house is known to promote better sleep, treat skin blemishes, act as a natural remedy for pain, help combat fungal growth and reduce anxiety. Along with that, keeping lavender in your house keeps the insects and flies away as it contains fly-repelling compounds.

5. Marigolds

Marigolds will not only add beauty to your home but are also effective in repelling pests. French and American marigolds possess strong spicy aromas along with yellow and orange blooms, which help keep the flies and bugs away.
