The monsoon season brings abundant joy and happiness but is also a host of numerous health illnesses. It is a period that provides relief from the scorching heat, but also brings along ailments. The drizzling season increases the risk of getting infected with various water-borne illnesses due to unhygienic conditions. The delightful season of monsoon can be a major threat to health by leading to health woes such as cold, flu, dengue, cholera and malaria among others. 

These health threats should be tackled with utmost diligence and basic preventive measures should be adopted to ward off such diseases. Ayurveda is one such prominent medicinal system that has solutions to major illnesses. Ayurvedic Herbs To Prevent Monsoon Diseases

1. Ashwagandha

It is a medicinal herb that has powerful health benefits for fertility, stress, fatigue, pain and anxiety. Consuming this ayurvedic herb regularly can boost your health during the rainy season. It is infused with rejuvenating properties which are known to drive away fatigue, common cold, caught and other seasonal illnesses. 

2. Neem

Another beneficial herb for overall health is neem which is abundant in antioxidants that promote health. The antiseptic, antioxidant, antibacterial and immune-boosting properties of neem are effective in promoting overall health. According to Lavneet, nimbidin and nimbolide, which are constituents of neem, have been found to possess antibacterial and antifungal properties. She suggests drinking neem tea or chewing neem leaves to promote overall well-being during monsoon. 

3. Lemongrass

Lemongrass is a host of health benefits including relieving pain and swelling, improving cholesterol, and stimulating menstrual flow among others. According to a study published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, lemongrass contains several antioxidants, which can help scavenge free radicals in your body that may cause disease. Nutritionist Lovneet states that consuming lemongrass tea or incorporating lemongrass-based soup can help strengthen your immune system and protect against common illnesses during the monsoon.

4. Giloy

Giloy or heart-leaved moonseed is an essential herb in Ayurvedic medicine. It is a great source of antioxidants which help in releasing toxins from the body, detoxifying the skin and improving skin texture. Also, it is effective in treating fever, controlling blood sugar levels and improving digestion. Consuming giloy as a decoction or in powdered form can help fortify your immune system during the monsoon, as per nutritionist Lovneet. 

5. Ginger

We all are familiar with the magical health benefits of ginger. According to John Hopkins Medicine, eating ginger can cut down on fermentation, constipation and other causes of bloating and intestinal gas. Wear and tear on cells. Ginger contains antioxidants. These molecules help manage free radicals, which are compounds that can damage cells when their numbers grow too high. Nutritionist Lovneet suggests drinking ginger tea or adding grated ginger to soups, stews, or stir-fries can help boost your overall health during the monsoon season.
