Diet For Male Fertility: The foods that you eat play an important part in affecting the fertility levels of men. There have been numerous studies that state the relationship between foods and the fertility levels of men. By adopting a healthy lifestyle, consuming nutrient-rich foods, and minimising stress, one can boost their fertility levels.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), about one-third of infertility cases are caused by male reproductive issues, one-third by female reproductive issues, and one-third by both male and female reproductive issues or by unknown factors. Several studies state that semen quality improves with healthy diets, while the opposite has been linked with diets high in saturated or trans fat. Therefore, here are some foods that men must avoid to increase their sperm count and prevent infertility.

Watch the video below for ways to boost male fertility:

Foods To Avoid For Male Fertility

1. Processed Meats

A number of studies link the consumption of meat to several chronic illnesses. Processed meats such as beef, bacon and others can decrease the sperm count and alter sperm mobility. A new study led by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health researchers found that frequent consumption of processed meats may harm a man’s ability to fertilise an egg, while eating more poultry may improve his chance.

2. Alcohol

3. Caffeine

Consuming too many amounts of caffeine can also reduce sperm count and hinder male fertility. Caffeine is a neuro psychotic chemical found in beverages made from coffee. The studies NIH state that men's consumption of coffee or caffeine has been connected to elevated testosterone levels and the s*x hormone binding globulin. Coffee modifies the glycolytic and oxidative characteristics of the Sertoli Cells, which may interfere with a male's reproductive capacity.

4. Soy Products

Although soy foods are extremely healthy for the body, consuming large amounts of soy can increase estrogen levels and decrease testosterone levels in the body. According to UChicago Medicine, soy products contain phytoestrogens, estrogen-like compounds that come from plants. A study of 99 men from fertility clinics in Boston concluded that excessive soy intake might decrease sperm concentration.
