Foods For Constipation Relief: Constipation is a common digestive problem that is experienced by many of us. It is a common condition in which one experiences difficulty in passing stool, which means passing fewer than three stools a week. Lack of dietary fibres, fluids and exercise are some common causes of constipation. When it comes to treating constipation, changes in diet and lifestyle can be effective in getting instant relief. Eating foods high in fibre and other vital nutrients can help in relieving constipation. In a conversation with Only My Health, Dr Vivek Shetty, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist, Jaslok Hospital and Research Center, Mumbai shared some expert tips and nutritious foods that you should include in your regular diet to get rid of digestive problems.

Foods To Get Relief From Constipation
1. Apples
An apple a day keeps the doctor away is a right quote. Apples are an abundant source of fibre and pectin, which helps in increasing stool frequency, decreasing stool hardness and duration and decreasing the need for laxatives.

2. Pears
You can also consume pears when suffering from constipation. Pears are known to be a great source of fructose and sorbitol, antioxidants with laxative properties. The unabsorbed fructose brings water to the intestines and loosens the stool. This provides instant relief from constipation.
3. Kiwi

Kiwi is an extremely nutritious food that is an excellent source of fibre and other vital nutrients. Eating kiwi can help improve stool consistency, decrease stool duration and ease abdominal pain, strain, and discomfort.
4. Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits are known to be the foremost choice when it comes to getting rid of constipation. Oranges, grapefruits, or mandarins are good sources of fibre and effective foods for constipation relief. They are rich in pectin, which reduces constipation.

5. Green Leafy Vegetables
You can also add green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale and others to your diet for constipation. Eating green leafy vegetables adds bulk and weight to your stool, which makes it easier to pass through your gut and relieve constipation.
