Natural Ways To Reduce Uric Acid: Uric acid is a normal body waste product that forms when the purines or chemicals break down. Consuming too much seafood, meat or foods high in purines can cause high levels of uric acid in the body. When too much uric acid stays in the body, it dissolves in the blood, passes through the kidneys, and may lead to the formation of kidney stones.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, hyperuricemia or high uric acid levels is very common as one in 5 people has hyperuricemia. With time, the uric acid buildup in the blood can lead to pain and other symptoms and also cause damage throughout your body. Therefore, managing your uric acid levels is extremely important for a healthy body. Here are some natural ways to reduce high levels of uric acid in the body.

1. Limit Purine-Rich Foods
One of the main reasons for high uric acid levels in the body is a breakdown of purines and consuming too many purine-rich foods. Foods with high levels of purines lead to uric acid when digested. Try to limit the intake of foods such as red meat, organ meats, fish, poultry and shellfish to reduce the levels naturally.

2. Limit Your Sugar Intake
Sugar is also one of the major contributing factors to too much uric acid in the body. Fructose, which is present in fruits and honey, when broken down in the body, releases purines, which further increase uric acid levels. To lower the amounts of sugar in your diet, consume whole foods, replace sugary drinks with water, and unsweetened drinks and check food labels for added sugars.

3. Avoid Alcohol
We all are aware of the fact that consuming alcohol makes us feel dehydrated. Some kinds of alcohol such as beer have high amounts of purines, which can lead to high uric acids. Also, alcohol is known to slow down the metabolism of nucleotides, a source that can turn into uric acid.
4. Manage Blood Sugar Levels
Sometimes uric acid buildup can also be a result of insulin resistance. People with high blood sugar levels are at a higher risk of dealing with adverse effects of uric acid in the body or hyperuricemia. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), high levels of uric acid makes oxidative stress by inducing the production of reactive oxygen species which interferes with the insulin signalling pathway and leads to insulin sensitivity.

5. Increase Fibre Intake
Fibre is one of the most essential nutrients that promotes a healthy body and well-being. Consuming fibre-rich foods not only promotes the feelings of satiation and prevents hunger but also reduces uric acid levels. Some healthy sources of fibre include beans, broccoli, berries, whole grains, avocados, dry fruits etc.
