Beginner Skincare Routine: Starting a skincare routine for beginners can be overwhelming as there are endless options available, such as serums, toners, oils and several others. For beginning the skincare journey, the key is to keep it simple, consistent and tailored to the skin’s basic needs. For beginners, there is no need to practice a 10-step skincare regimen or use high-end products to see results, but with a solid foundation, the skin can transform. It is important to focus on the skin's needs, especially in the beginning. This is where the 5-step skincare routine comes into play. This easy skincare routine for beginners is easy to follow, effective and designed to promote healthy skin in the long term.
This 5-step beginner-friendly skincare routine covers the essentials such as cleansing, moisturising and sun protection and others. However, each step plays a major role in helping the skin stay balanced, clear and resilient and suits every skin type, be it oily, dry or combination. By following the 5-step skincare routine, the skin will be gentle and will glow from within.
5-Step Beginner-Friendly Skincare Routine
Cleanser
This is one of the most crucial steps in the skincare routine. Throughout the day, the skin collects dirt, excess oil and pollutants that clog the pores and lead to breakouts and acne. Thus, to avoid this, use a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type - gel-based for oily skin, cream or milk-based for dry or sensitive skin. Practice cleaning the face twice a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime.

Toner
Toner helps prep your skin for the next steps. However, it is not a necessity. You can always skip it if you don’t want to invest. A good toner helps to restore the skin’s pH balance post-cleaning, tightens pores and soothes the skin. Opt for alcohol-free toners with calming ingredients like rose water, witch hazel or hyaluronic acid.

Serums
Serums are concentrated formulas, therefore, they target specific concerns like acne, dullness or pigmentation. As a beginner, start with the basic Vitamin C serum in the morning for antioxidant protection and a hydrating serum like hyaluronic acid at night. Apply a few drops after your toner and gently press them into the skin.
Moisturiser
Moisturiser is not at all non-negotiable. It hydrates, repairs the skin barrier and also seals in all the goodness from your previous steps. Opt for gel-based moisturisers if you have oily or acne-prone skin. Cream-based moisturisers are best for dry and sensitive skin.

Sunscreen
This is considered one of the underrated skincare heroes. UV damage not only causes tanning but also premature ageing, pigmentation and even skin cancer. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Apply it every single day, even if you’re indoors or it’s cloudy. It should be the last step of the morning skincare routine.
