Seeds For Hormonal Imbalance: Hormones are certain chemicals produced in the body that coordinate various functions in the body by carrying messages through blood to the organs, muscles, skin and tissues. Our hormones control our metabolism, constant internal balance, sexual function, moods, reproduction and sleep-wake cycle among others.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a hormonal imbalance happens when you have too much or too little of one or more hormones. It’s a broad term that can represent many different hormone-related conditions. In an Instagram post, Dt Manpreet Kalra, Hormone and Gut Health Coach listed some wonder seeds that can help in balancing your hormones and promote good mood and health.

1. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are potentially one of the healthiest seeds and offer a plethora of health benefits. They are a great source of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre, and many others that promote a healthy digestive system. A healthy gut aids in the elimination of excess hormones from the body, thus preventing imbalances. Dt Kalra suggests soaking chia seeds for at least 2 hours and adding them in smoothies, curd or along with some fresh fruits.

2. Flax Seeds

Flax seeds are well-known seeds for promoting hormonal balance. They are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fibre that help in boosting fertility and estrogen production. You can add one tablespoon of roasted or grounded flax seeds to curd, salad, smoothie, water or buttermilk and enjoy the benefits of these healthy seeds.

3. Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds are an excellent source of healthy fats, protein, B vitamins, minerals, fibre, antioxidants, and other beneficial plant compounds. These seeds are rich in zinc which helps in boosting the production of progesterone and prevents excess production of estrogen. Dt Kalra recommends adding sesame seeds to vegetables, chutney, ladoo or knead in chapati.

4. Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower seeds are ideally abundant in iron content, vitamin E and selenium which boosts progesterone production in the body. It is also a wonderful seed for those suffering from anaemia to combat iron deficiency. You can consume sunflower seeds by soaking them along with fruits and adding them to smoothies or curd.

5. Pumpkin Seeds

According to Dt Kalra, pumpkin seeds are also effective in balancing out hormones. They are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium and zinc that may help balance levels of estrogen and progesterone. She advises consuming pumpkin seeds by adding them to salads, and smoothies or having them with fruits. You can also make seed butter and consume it.
