Watermelon is loaded with essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, providing overall wellness. Despite its advantages, there are certain health issues which compel you to avoid the consumption of watermelon. 

Certain health conditions make people consider the option of consuming watermelon as a snack in the summer. People often overlook the health issues and eat watermelon as their favourite summer fruit. However, certain conditions like spiking blood sugar levels, affecting kidney functions and others can make you in more ill than benefitting your health. Diabetes

Watermelon has a high glycemic index, which restricts its consumption by diabetics. Moreover, due to its high water content and rich fibre, diabetics can consume watermelon in small quantities under certain considerations. Also, the high content of natural sugars made it not a preferable snack for diabetics.

Cold And Cough

Individuals suffering from cold and cough should avoid watermelon as it is a cooling fruit that can exacerbate these conditions. The high water content in watermelon may increase mucus production, making congestion worse.

Fever

Watermelon should be avoided if you have a fever. Consuming this cooling fruit during fever may not be beneficial and it can elevate the symptoms. The cooling nature can interfere with the body’s natural heat regulation and potentially worsen chills and discomfort. It can also affect the digestive system, which is already weak due to fever.

Allergy

People having allergies should refrain from consuming watermelon and could refrain from eating watermelon as it could aggravate their symptoms. If you notice any allergic reactions after consuming watermelon, it is best to avoid it.
