Baisakhi 2025 Punjabi Recipes: Baisakhi is a significant festival celebrated by the Sikh community living in different parts of North India, particularly Punjab. Sarson Ka Saag And Makki ki Roti
This iconic pairing is considered to be the staple of Punjabi cuisine and a must-have for the Baisakhi festival feast. This heartwarming and comforting combination is enjoyed by people of all age groups. Sarson ka Saag features mustard green leaves that are simmered with spices, while Makki ki roti is made with coarse corn flour, offering a delightful textual contrast.
Meethe Peele Chawal
Meethe Peele Chawal or yellow sweet rice, adds a touch of sweetness to the Baisakhi spread. This is one of the traditional Punjabi recipes that are prepared during this festival. To prepare Meethe Peele Chawal, all you need is rice, ghee, saffron, sugar, roasted nuts, salt and some spices like cumin, cardamom, cloves and black pepper. Cook the rice with dry fruits and the mentioned ingredients and spices. Lastly, add strands of saffron to brighten up the rice.
Punjabi Kadhi
One of the most popular dishes of the Punjabi household, Punjabi kadhi is prepared with buttermilk or curd, gram flour, mustard oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, dry red chillies and salt. The curry is made and mixed with besan pakoras and served hot with steamed rice.
Pindi Chole
Another traditional and savoury Punjabi dish is Pindi Chole. As the name suggests, Pindi Chole is made with chickpeas. A thick paste of chickpea is prepared, which is then simmered with an assortment of spices like black pepper, cardamom, cloves, bay leaves and cinnamon. People enjoy this dish with raw onion slices, green chillies and tomato slices.
Lassi
Baisakhi is incomplete without the popular summer drink, Lassi. This cool, delicious and sweetened curd-based Punjabi drink is loved by all across the country. Lassi is made with curd, sugar, and nuts. To make the drink extra special in this hot summer, people also add seasonal ripe mangoes.
