Delhi Air Pollution: As the winter season is approaching, the air quality of Delhi, as usual, begins to deteriorate. Delhi, being one of the most populated cities in the country, faces persistent air pollution challenges that have severe impacts on public health. The National Capital's overall air quality index (AQI) dropped to 251, considered as ‘Poor’ on Saturday morning.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) states that air quality in the ‘poor’ range can have significant health risks including breathing problems and may increase the risk of respiratory problems over time. With such deteriorating AQI, it is imperative to take certain measures to protect yourself from the harmful effects of air pollution. Here are some easy and effective tips that you can follow to minimise the impact of poor air quality.
Tips To Protect Yourself From Air Pollution
Use Masks
Wear a high-quality mask that helps to filter polluted air, such as N95. These masks are specifically designed to protect you from breathing harmful substances from poor air quality.
Use Air Filters
Using air purifiers at your home is also an efficient way to protect your loved ones from air pollution. Air filters help to filter harmful substances from the air, including allergens and dust.
Limit Outdoor Activities
On days with severely poor air quality, try to remain indoors to avoid inhaling polluted air. Minimise activities like jogging or running for a while and consider opting for indoor activities such as home workouts and yoga.
Stay Hydrated
Maintaining good hydration levels in your body can help it fight free radicals and prevent inflammation. Consider drinking ample amounts of water to flush out toxins from the body.
Balanced Diet
A healthy diet plays a quintessential role in boosting the body's immune system and warding off diseases and infections. Incorporate foods like berries, green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds into your diet to boost immunity and gain other health benefits.
