Delhi Air Quality: The air quality in Delhi remained in the ‘very poor’ category with a recorded temperature of 9 degrees Celsius on Saturday, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The poor air quality and pollution in Delhi-NCR is potent in escalating certain health risks such as asthma, bronchitis, heart disease and other chronic illnesses.

Senior citizens must take proactive measures to protect their health and limit their exposure to poor air quality and pollution. Due to a weak immune system, senior citizens are more prone to illnesses caused by poor air quality. Therefore, here are some essential tips that you should follow to protect yourself from poor air quality.

Tips For Senior Citizens To Protect From Air Pollution

Limit Outdoor Activities

Staying indoors, especially when the air quality is at its worst is one of the best strategies for seniors to reduce the negative impacts of pollution.

Wear Masks Outdoor

A good mask can provide a great deal of protection. The greatest threat to respiratory health is small particulate matter (PM2.5), which may be effectively filtered out with N95 or FFP2 masks.

Invest In Air Purifiers

Investing in a high-quality air purifier with a HEPA filter is essential to ensure a safe indoor environment. The purpose of these purifiers is to collect and eliminate dust, pollen, tiny particles and other airborne contaminants that may enter the house.

Healthy Diet

Seniors should concentrate on including meals high in antioxidants. Vitamins C and E are believed to protect the lungs and can be found in foods including berries, citrus fruits, leafy greens, nuts and seeds.

Monitor AQI

Before stepping outside, seniors should frequently check the air quality index (AQI). By classifying pollution levels from ‘Good’ to ‘Hazardous,’ the AQI shows how safe it is to be outside.
