Yoga Poses For Lung Health: Delhi’s air quality has remained a matter of serious concern as its AQI has crossed the 400 mark in various places including Anand Vihar, Nazafgarh, Pusa and many others. With dense fog and reduced visibility, Delhites are choking to ‘severe’ and worsening air quality at the beginning of the winter season. Prolonged exposure to such toxic air has hazardous effects on one’s health, especially lung and heart health.
The toxic air that residents of Delhi-NCR are breathing has the potential to cause immune system weakness, chronic respiratory conditions, and decreased lung function. Therefore, people need to take charge of their health and adopt habits that may lessen the negative impacts of air pollution. Yoga is a very accessible and efficient method of protecting the respiratory system and improving lung health. Here are 4 easy yoga asanas that you can practise indoors and protect yourself from the harmful effects of air pollution.
Yoga Asanas To Boost Lung Health
Pranayama
People who are exposed to high levels of pollution need to practise pranayama techniques like Anulom Vilom (Nadi Shodhana) and Kapalbhati as they target respiratory function. These exercises encourage deep, conscious breathing and are quite helpful for keeping the lungs healthy.
Setu Bandhasana
By raising the chest and extending the muscles surrounding the ribs, this pose helps to expand the lung capacity and promote deeper and more effective breathing. Along with its lung-benefitting effects, Setu Bandhasana also lowers tension and encourages relaxation.

Bhujangasana
This pose improves oxygen intake and lung efficiency by allowing the lungs to expand entirely. In addition to strengthening the chest muscles and increasing the diaphragm's flexibility, it also helps in easy and effective breathing.
Ustrasana
Ustrasana, also known as Camel Pose is a great asana for enhancing lung health. It is a deep backbend that effectively stretches the chest and lungs and optimises the respiratory system. Additionally, the pose extends the throat which can facilitate better, clearer breathing and assist reduced congestion.
