Facial Hair Shaving Tips: Removing facial hair is one of the most common concerns that we all experience. The question of how to shave facial hair definitely arises in our minds. From waxing and threading to shaving, there are several ways to remove facial hair, but shaving is considered the most convenient and easy. But again, shaving facial hair is generally associated with increased hair growth. But little do we know that our hair growth largely depends on genetics and hormonal changes rather than the medium of your hair removal.
Shaving your facial hair has numerous advantages including better absorption of skincare products, smooth and soft skin, removal of dead skin cells and exfoliation of the skin. But are you still worried that shaving your face will make your hair grow back thicker and faster? You're not alone! Many women believe that shaving increases hair growth, but is it really true?
Shaving Facial Hair
According to Dr Monica Kapoor, celebrity cosmetologist says that shaving does not affect hair growth. The rate and thickness of your hair are determined by your genetics and hormones, not by how often you shave. So, go ahead and shave away, it won't change the underlying growth pattern of your hair. But why does it sometimes seem like shaving makes hair grow back thicker? There are a few reasons for this illusion:
- Cut ends can make hair appear more blunt and thick
- Regrowth can feel coarser than the smooth, shaved hair
- Perception plays a role - we tend to notice the darker, thicker hairs more than the fine, light-coloured ones.
Tips For Shaving Facial Hair
Exfoliate before shaving to remove dead skin cells and help the razor glide smoothly. Use a sharp razor and shaving cream or gel to avoid nicks and cuts. Shave in the direction of hair growth, not against it, to prevent ingrown hairs and razor burns. Rinse with cold water to close the pores and reduce inflammation. Consider alternative hair removal methods like epilators or waxing for longer-lasting results.

Make sure to use a high-quality razor such as a safety razor, cartridge razor or electric shaver depending on your skin type. Prepping your skin before shaving your facial hair is of utmost importance. Gently cleanse your face with a mild cleanser to avoid dirt accumulation, irritation and redness.
Remember, shaving is just a temporary solution, it won't change the underlying growth pattern of your hair. But with the right techniques and tools, you can keep your skin looking and feeling smooth and healthy.
