Essential oils are one of the most effective treatments for a variety of ailments. They smell great, help in reducing stress, fight fungal infections and help you sleep better. They also help in lifting your mood and make you feel good with just a whiff of their fragrance. Aromatherapy can be incorporated into your everyday life in many ways.

Dr Blossom Kochhar - Pioneer in Aromatherapy and Chairperson of the Blossom Kochhar group of companies suggested five ways to use essential oils for better sleep.

How To Use Essential Oils For Better Sleep

Diffuser

This is a no-brainer. You can add an essential oil of your choice that helps you relax mixed with a carrier oil in a diffuser. The soothing aroma of the oils will help you relax and sleep. You can use lavender, neroli, and chamomile for better sleep. Using a diffuser is an age-old popular method. It is also one of the safest methods to use essential oils.  In case you are using a diffuser with a candle make sure that you keep it away and in a safe place to avoid any mishap.

Massage

You can mix an essential oil with a carrier oil and massage gently. Mix a few drops of essential oil with a carrier oil and apply it to your pulse points.  Take a drop or two of lavender essentials and mix it with coconut oil. Gently massage your scalp in circular motions. This will help you relax and sleep well. Alternatively, you can also apply a few drops of cedarwood essential oil mixed with jojoba oil on your feet. This will instantly make you relaxed and help you sleep well.

Pillow Spray

You can sprinkle a few drops of lavender essential oil on your pillow cover, a few minutes before you go to sleep. You can also make pillow spray. In a spray bottle, add 10-12 drops of ylang-ylang essential oil mixed with water. You can spray it onto your pillowcase or bed cover before sleeping to have a sound and relaxing sleep.

Bath Water

You can add a few drops of sandalwood essential or neroli essential oil to your bath water. You can take a bath before bedtime to have a relaxing sleep. You can also add aromatherapy-infused bath salts to your bath water. A warm and relaxing bath can help relax your muscles and mind.

Inhalation

You can inhale essential oil before you go to sleep. Add 2-3 drops of any essential oil of your choice in a cotton ball or a tissue and inhale deeply. This will give you immediate relaxation and help you sleep well. You can use lavender, sandalwood or clary sage essential oils for inhalation.

Remember aromatherapy is a complementary way and not an alternative to any medication. In case, you have any prevailing ailment or condition I would suggest that you consult with a medical practitioner.
