Hacks To Combat Skin Dryness: Summer is here and so is that always-on Air conditioner (AC). The unbearable heat is still bearable, however, the humidity is making people fall prey to the cool AC air. Air conditioning has become a lifesaver during the hot, humid summer days. Spending hours under the AC can affect the skin by taking away the moisture from your skin. Yes, you read it right. The prolonged exposure to AC air takes away the natural oils, leaving it feeling dry, dull and lifeless. AC removes humidity indoors, causing dehydration, making your skin prone to flakiness, irritation and premature ageing. But no need to worry, as with certain easy hacks, you can restore skin hydration at home.
If you’re having AC-induced skin dryness, there is no need to use expensive skincare products. Incorporating certain easy tweaks in your daily lifestyle routine and with some natural remedies, you can easily restore the natural glow of your skin during the summer season while staying inside AC indoors. Here are some easy hacks to hydrate your AC-dry, dull skin at home.
How To Hydrate Dry And Dull Skin Due To AC
Humidification Of Dry And Sensitive Skin
Air conditioning extracts the moisture from the air indoors. This results in a drop in humidity levels, thus making you feel uncomfortable and look drab as your skin feels tighter, flaky or uneven. To combat this, humification is the solution. Humidifiers help restore air moisture. You can also try to place an open pot filled with water in your room
Hydration Through Drinking Water
AC decreases the elasticity of the skin by making it lose its moisture and resulting in shrivelling. The water lost from the skin’s tissues if not replaced immediately, can cause wrinkles and creases. Thus, provide hydration to the skin by drinking at least eight glasses of water. It helps to keep the skin plump and hydrated from within. You can also complement this by using a hydrating moisturiser, but not too heavy because you don’t want your face to become too oily during the already humid season. Use a gel-based light moisturiser that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin. This helps retain the moisture on the skin’s surface.

Maintain Skin Hygiene
AC can exacerbate the existing Dermatitis conditions such as osacea, psoriasis or eczema. Opt for mild, non-stripping cleansers to avoid further skin dryness. Moreover, harsh soaps can strip natural oils, worsening dryness. Look for cleansers with good moisturising properties and avoid those having strong fragrance or alcohol. If your skin conditions get worse, consult a doctor for the right treatment.
