What Is Aneurysm?
According to John Hopkins, an aneurysm is a bulging, weakened area in the wall of a blood vessel resulting in an abnormal widening or ballooning greater than 50% of the vessel's normal diameter (width). An aneurysm may occur in any blood vessel but is most often seen in an artery rather than a vein.
An aneurysm may be located in many areas of the body, such as blood vessels of the brain, the aorta, the neck, the intestines, the kidney, the spleen, and the vessels in the legs. The most common location of an aneurysm is the aorta, which carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the body. The thoracic aorta is the short segment of the aorta in the chest cavity. The abdominal aorta is the section of the aorta that runs through the abdomen. An aneurysm can be characterised by its location, shape, and cause.
Causes Of Aneurysm
According to Healthline, damaged tissue in the arteries can play a role. Blockages, such as fatty deposits, can harm the arteries. These deposits can trigger the heart to pump harder than necessary to push blood past the fatty buildup. This added stress due to the increased pressure can damage the arteries.

Symptoms Of Aneurysm
Aneurysms that occur near the surface of the body may show signs of swelling and pain. A large mass may also develop. The symptoms of a ruptured aneurysm vary, based on its location, states Healthline. Some Symptoms of a ruptured aneurysm in the brain begin with a sudden and excruciating headache. Other symptoms may include vision problems, such as double vision, sensitivity to light, nausea and vomiting and loss of consciousness.
Treatment Of Aneurysm
The WebMD states that the only way to treat an aneurysm is to have it repaired with surgery or an endovascular procedure. For inoperable aneurysms, you may be prescribed drugs to lower your blood pressure or ease the force of your heart's beating. Your chance of it bursting will go down. In some cases, the aneurysm can be removed. That section of the artery can be replaced with a synthetic graft.
