New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: One of the most revered and celebrated gods in the Hindu religion, Lord Hanuman is symbol of courage and energy. Devotees worship him to gain strength to fight all evil and emerge victorious. But, a majority of us only know a little bit about the diety's life via Television epics, there are still numerous things that we have no idea about our beloved Bajrang Bali, Maruti, Pawan Putra or whatever you may want to call. Let us a look at some interesting facts about Lord Hanuman:
1. An exemplification of devotion, strength, and perseverance, Hanuman was an incarnation of Lord Shiva.
2. Once Maruti applied sindoor all over his body for the long life of Sri Ram. Since then, it is a part of the festival that devotees apply sindoor and tilak from his idol.
3. The word Hanuman means disfigured jaw in Sanskrit. It was disfigured by none other than Lord Indra-- Rain God.
4. Even though Pawan Putra was a Brahmachari, he had a son named Makardhwaja who was born to a mighty fish, who had swallowed his sweat during the Lanka fire.
5. Once Lord Ram issued a death sentence for Lord Hanuman on the advice of sage Vishwamitra-- his guru. The disharmony was created the messenger of gods-- Narad.

6. Hanuman has also created his own version of Ramayan. A superior version of Lord Valmiki. He etched his version of the epic on the rocks of the Himalayas with his nails.
7. Lord Bhima and Hanuman were brothers as they both were sons of Vayu (Lord of the Winds).
8. Lord Hanuman barred Yam from claiming the life of Lord Ram.
9. Bajrang Bali once rejected Goddess Sita's gift-- a pearl necklace.
10. There are 108 names of Lord Hanuman in Sanskrit.
