New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: One of the vibrant and colourful festivals in the world, Holi has finally arrived. Also known as the 'festival of colours; people celebrate it with great enthusiasm and fervour. Several mouth-watering delicacies such as gujia, malpua and pakore are prepared while people take out time to aggregate at Holi Milan ceremonies and meet and greet each other by applying gulal and splashing colours on each other.

But, amidst all the excitement and fun, we often forget to take care of our skin which deserves maximum attention during this time. The aftereffects of colours can cause discomfort to our skin, eyes and hair which could prove hazardous to our health. Thus, precautionary measures should be taken during the holy festival.

Here are some essential skincare tips which you need to avoid nasty skin problem that erupts post-Holi:

Oil your skin and hair

It is advised that you apply oil (almond, or coconut) to your skin and hair as it will prevent the skin to clog your pores and enter the skin layers. It also protects your hair from getting damaged.

Sunscreen

Constant exposure of sun can take away moisture from your skin and make it tanned. It is difficult to restore the glaze once the skin gets tanned. Thus a sunscreen is a must before stepping out to play Holi.

Paint nail

You should paint your nails as the thick coat of nail paint will prevent the colours from harming your cuticles.

Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum Jelly is applied on lipstick to prevent from drying and harmful chemicals by colours. It will keep your lips protected and hydrated while you enjoy the 'spring festival'.

Keep yourself hydrated

On Holi, we often forget to drink plenty of water to keep us hydrated. Drink ample amount of water (6-7 glass) to ward of skin problems like acne.

Apply ubtan

Use desi ubtan made up of besan, lemon, curd, Gulab Jal to remove colours from your face. Keep it for at least 45-60 minutes and wash with mild face wash comprising Aloe Vera.
