Here are some tips to protect your hair on the 'festival of colours':
Oil
Apply oil (coconut, olive, castor or almond) on your hair and scalp before heading out to play Holi. Colours usually stick to your scalp and make it damaged. If you have a long hair, tie your hair into a knot or ponytail.
Wear bandana
You may even wear a bandana to prevent your hair from damage but you may not know what might come your way. The colours of Holi can penetrate the layers of your scalp causing headache. Thus applying oil, which acts as a shield, is essential.
Use herbal Shampoo
After Holi celebrations, wash your head and scalp only using water. Try to remove as much colour as possible before applying sulphate free shampoo and rinse thoroughly to wash your hair.
Dry your hair and apply olive or coconut oil to help its recover moisture. It will make your hair stronger and resilient to damage caused by toxic colours.
Condition your hair
Conditions your hair by applying ubtan made up of besan, lemon, curd and gulab jal for a couple of days to treat the damage to the texture of hair.
Keep yourself hydrated
Drink plenty of water and fluids to prevent your hair from getting dry and become more vulnerable to harsh colours.
Hair mask
If you have a sensitive scalp, make a paste of avocado and lemon juice, keep it for at least 30-45 minutes. It will protect your hair from any infection caused by the toxic colours.
