Engineer's Day is celebrated each year on September 15 to commemorate the birth of an extraordinary civil engineer in India, Sir Mokshagundum Visvesvaraya. He was born in 1861 and made some major contributions to engineering that allowed him the title of “Father of Modern Mysore”. One of the many ideas and contributions to our society includes the Block System, an automatic door system that prevents overflow of water as well as flood protection which was designed for Hyderabad. Furthermore, he designed the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam and irrigation methods.
