New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: The festival of colours have finally arrived and people across the country are the celebrating Holi with fervour and joy today. Holi is among the most important Hindu festivals as it signifies the win of 'Good' over the 'evil'. People also consider Holi as a sign of broken relationships. 

With arrival of Holi, also comes a number of traditional dishes that are made across Indian homes. One of the most favourite dishes is Gujiya, which is equally important on this festival, and without having Gujiya on this day, the festival remains tasteless.

Gujiya is a flaky pastry prepared with dough and stuffed with dry fruits, nuts, Khoya and sugar. Among the different types of Gujiyas, the khoya gujiya is the favourite one of the people. So here is the recipe to make mouth-watering Gujiya on Holi and treat your loved ones with the sweetness.  

Necessary Ingredients:

Refined flour - 2 cups

Ghee - 1/4 cup

Curd or milk - 1/4 cup

Ingredients for Gujiya stuffing

Semolina (Sooji) - 3/4 cup

Powdered Sugar - 3/4 cup

Dry fruits - 1 cup

Small Cardamom - 7 to 8

Ghee (for frying) - for frying gujiyas and according to the quantity of semolina

Recipe of Gujiya

Take out all-purpose flour in a vessel and mix ghee and curd well in it. After this, pour some water in the flour and stir it slowly. Keep in mind that this flour needs hard kneading. When the dough is prepared from flour, keep it covered for half an hour.

 

How to make stuffing

Cut all dry fruits into small pieces. Peel cardamom and make a powder of the seeds. Put ghee in the pan and heat it. Then add semolina to it and keep stirring it continuously with a ladle. This is to be done until the semolina turns golden brown. When the semolina is roasted, add chopped dry fruits to it and mix it well. Keep in mind that ghee has to be taken according to the quantity of semolina. Take out the roasted semolina in a vessel. When the semolina becomes cold, add powdered sugar to it and your mixer is ready.

How to make Gujiya

Then knead your dough to soften it a little and make small pieces of the dough. Then make the dough flat with the help of roller. After this, keep the whole of the finely flour in Gujiya mould and stuff it according to your wish and its capacity. Then close the mould and remove the extra dough left out. Then take out the Gujiya from the mould.

 

Put ghee in the pan and heat it. Heat the ghee on medium flame, add Gujiya one by one according to the capacity of the embroidery and fry it. Once the gujiya turns golden-brown, take it out of the pan and spread it on a plate by laying tissue paper. Your tasty Gujiya is ready and eat it and feed it to others.
