Bollywood actress Kiara Advani stole the thunder during her Met Gala 2025 debut as she walked the red carpet flaunting her baby bump. The actress looked like a walking dream as she posed while caressing her pregnant belly and celebrating motherhood through her look. The two hearts on her outfit, connected by a string, aka umbilical cord, gave a shoutout to her new journey as a mother. However, what attracted the most about Kiara Advani's look was the metal breast plate that accentuated her curves and made her look like a million dollars.
Kiara Advani brought to life designer Gaurav Gupta's metal breast plate look, but she wasn't the first actress to flaunt it at a global platform. Before her, actresses Alia Bhatt and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja also dazzled in custom Gaurav Gupta breastplate outfits and became the talk of the town. Gupta introduced the world of breastplates for the first time during his spring-summer 2024 couture show in Paris, entitled ‘Aarohanam’. Now, it has become a staple brand signifier seen on many celebrities.

Sonam Kapoor
Just earlier this year, Sonam Kapoor left everyone speechless in a custom piece from Gaurav Gupta's Haute Couture show in Paris titled 'Across the Flame'. It was inspired by Gupta’s and his life partner, Navkirat Sodhi's, journey of recovery after they experienced a life-altering fire accident. Sonam Kapoor wore a metallic gold breastplate paired with a flouncy black tulle tutu and satin sculpted detailing at the waist. Departing from his signature body-hugging gowns, this was the first time that designer Gaurav Gupta experimented with a relatively new genre, taking inspiration from the 19th-century ballet era.
Styled by Rhea Kapoor and Sanya Kapoor, Sonam ate and left no crumbs when it came to pulling off the look. She paired it with a trompe l'oeil-inspired ear cuff worn over her helix and a pair of solitaires.

Alia Bhatt
Last year, Alia Bhatt made her runway debut at the L’Oréal Paris - Le Defilé show wearing a custom Gaurav Gupta Couture. She looked ravishing in a metal-cast silver breastplate adorned with swan’s head interwoven with the body of a serpent. The actress paired the signature look with black velvet sharara trousers from Gupta's 2024 couture collection, Arunodaya. Styled by Priyanka Kapadia, Alia Bhatt looked like a breath of fresh air in loose wavy hair and a vibrant smile. Her statement earrings and silver eye makeup added extra oomph to her look.

The latest talk of the town, actress Kiara Advani, made her debut at the MET Gala 2025 wearing another gorgeous custom-made Gaurav Gupta couture titled ‘Bravehearts’. Representing the MET Gala theme of celebrating the history of Black fashion and dandyism, the designer says that this dress is a "tribute to defiance, legacy, and new beginnings. Bravehearts is built on the spirit of the Black Dandy — those who challenged norms and reshaped culture with grace, strength, and individuality."
He added, "On the pregnant Kiara Advani, the look takes on deeper meaning; representing how identity is inherited and reimagined through generations. At its core, a gold sculpted breastplate with two hearts - mother and child, connected by an abstract umbilical cord." Additionally, Kiara Advani also flaunted a dramatic white cape echoing André Leon Talley’s 2010 Met Gala look. Gupta claims that it represents both 'armour and offering'.
