Oiling Routine In A Week: Healthy and lustrous hair is a dream for almost everyone. From experimenting with varied products to trying home remedies, we make extensive efforts to get the best hair. An ideal hair care routine involves shampooing, conditioning, oiling and detangling to achieve healthy and smooth hair. While every step within a hair care routine is crucial, oiling is one of the most important steps that you should never miss.
When it comes to oiling hair, the majority of us feel stuck on the question of how many times we should oil our hair to prevent hair fall and promote healthy and strong tresses. Dr Seema Oberoi Lall, Consultant, Dermatology, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram explained that there is no fixed time as to how many times one should oil the hair. An individual should be aware of his/ her hair type and hair care problems in order to decide on how much oiling your hair requires.

How Many Times Should You Oil Your Hair?
According to Dr Lall, if one has to oil, it should usually be done only in those types of hair which are more dry or frizzy and that too, and the oil should be applied only on the length and not on the scalp because the scalp naturally has oil glands and they get choked and one can have other issues like folliculitis, dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis and other problems if you put oil directly on the scalp.

When Should You Ideally Oil Your Hair?
To this query, Dr Lall advised that only oiling of the length of the hair should be done or can be done half an hour to one hour before washing in people who have dry hair. People who have dry hair should wash usually about once or twice a week unless they are sweaty and dirty. So, in those patients, let's say they're washing two times a week, one on a weekend and one in the midweek they can apply oil both times so it could be once or twice a week depending on the need.
But for people who have oily hair, people who generally have excessive dandruff and a lot of pimples and greasy oily scalps, these people should not have oil at all. They should in fact use clarifying shampoos, oiling will only worsen the problem as the hair is getting enough nutrition and oiling.

Benefits Of Oiling Your Hair
Oiling is an essential hair care routine and when done properly can have impressive benefits on the overall health and appearance of your hair. Oiling not only adds strength to your tresses, but also improves the appearance of split ends, adds moisture, and provides protection against the sun by creating a protective barrier. Therefore, always oil your hair once or twice a week to strengthen your hair and get healthy and bouncy tresses.
