Do you know that you can improve so many health issues just by walking for like 30 minutes a day, especially in the morning? When you walk before having your breakfast meal, what happens is that it helps improve the metabolism and burn fat. The reason behind it is that since you don't eat anything in the morning and you walk on an empty stomach, your body uses fat and stored glycogen for energy, and even 30 minutes of walking can have a significant positive impact on weight control and insulin sensitivity.

Dr. Rajinder Kumar Singal, who is the Principal Director and HOD in Internal Medicine at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, exclusively told Jagran English about the 30 minute morning walk on an empty stomach.

Dr. Rajinder said, "Physical activity like walking is important for body health, and it helps to control weight because it helps us burn calories. If we add 30 minutes of brisk walking to our daily routine, we could burn about 150 more calories a day. Of course, the more we walk and the quicker our pace, the more calories we will burn. A regular walking schedule can help you lose more than just weight. You can prevent many health problems concerning your heart, joints, mental health (depression, anxiety, and nervousness), lung capacity, immune system, and body strength."

In addition, he added, "As a bonus, walking regularly also helps your skin glow. When we take meals, the body diverts more blood to the digestive system, which could cause less blood flow to muscles and even the heart, leading to cramps and angina. It is advisable to wait at least 30 to 60 minutes after a meal before engaging in a brisk walk to allow for proper digestion of food. While doing some exercises at any point in the day is good, choosing the best time can help you make the most of your regimen. For example, mornings are the best when it comes to walking. There is less pollution in the air, allowing you to get adequate oxygen and fresh air. Then, the calm and fresh morning air also helps you feel more active and energized."

At last, Dr. Rajinder Kumar Singal said, "Walking on an empty stomach can contribute to better insulin sensitivity, helping regulate blood sugar levels, especially in diabetic subjects. A regular walk can maintain both blood pressure and lipid levels, thus helping to reduce the incidence of heart attacks and strokes. Inadequate production of natural painkillers or stress-balancing hormones, endorphins, in our body may lead to depression. A 45-minute morning walk every day can help the release and proper flow of endorphins in your body."
