Heavy Bleeding During Menstruation: The normal vaginal bleeding that takes place every month for 4-7 days is known as menstruation. According to UNICEF, on average a woman menstruates for about 7 years during their lifetime. During menstruation, some women experience normal bleeding while some have to deal with heavy blood flow. The heavy blood flow may also cause extremely painful cramps. So is the heavy blood flow a sign of endometriosis?

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of your uterus grows outside the uterus, often on the fallopian tubes, ovaries, or other pelvic organs. While this misplaced tissue doesn't contribute directly to heavy bleeding, it can lead to inflammation and scar tissue buildup, which can disrupt normal menstrual flow and potentially cause heavier periods. However, several other factors can also cause heavy bleeding, including uterine fibroids, polyps, hormonal imbalances, certain birth control methods, and even underlying medical conditions.

However, if you experience a significant change in your menstrual flow, especially if it becomes heavier than usual then you should definitely consult a gynaecologist for a proper examination.
