Lunar Eclipse 2023: A Penumbral Lunar Eclipse is all set to take place on May 05 (Friday) across different parts of the world. This will be the very first Chandra Grahan of the year and will be witnessed by several countries around the globe. A Lunar Eclipse is a celestial event which occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow, causing the moon to be darkened.

This penumbral eclipse would be visible from Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and Antarctica. While the eclipse would be visible from major parts of North America and South America. Although the penumbral eclipse would be visible in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Mauritius and Singapore, none of the religious activities which are observed during the Lunar eclipse would be followed, as per Drik Panchang.

1. Keep yourself positive, patient and calm.

2. Stay hydrated as the duration of the lunar eclipse is for four hours, and consuming food or water is restricted during this period. 

3. According to ancient beliefs, one should chant holy mantras during the phase of the lunar eclipse.

4. It is considered auspicious to take a bath before and after the Lunar Eclipse.

5. Pregnant women should be extra careful during this astronomical event. 

6. Donation and charity are some good deeds that one can perform during a lunar eclipse.

7. Adding Tulsi leaves (Basil) to every food item in the house is considered very important so that the food does not get impure.

8. One can also read Bhagavad Gita or Ramcharitramanas and engage themselves in spiritual activities. 

Lunar Eclipse 2023: Don’ts

1. As per Hindu Mythology, consuming and cooking food during Lunar Eclipse is considered inauspicious.

2. As it will be a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, experts suggest not seeing the grahan through the naked eye. 

3. Expecting mothers should be extra careful and stay away from sharp-edged items such as scissors, knives, or blades. 

4. Avoid stepping outside while Lunar Eclipse as it may radiate harmful rays.

5. Performing puja or any other auspicious things should be avoided during the eclipse.
